Homecoming

Today is that homecoming dance and there is interesting information that must be told. I really wanted to go out with someone, rememer? Well, I'm not-I'm going to Taco Bell with my friend "J"- but my friend did find out some interesting information on the guy I do like. The guy who got kicked out of band twice.
Yes, that little measly guy is the one who I totally want to go out with and my other friend, let's call her "A", did something undescibable. Here is the situation and what led up to it.
At band practice this pas Wednesday, I told her and she came up with her"brilliant plan". Oh God, I thought, what has she c ome up with this time. So she called the guy, "JH" over and asked him one thing. If he would go to homecoming with me. I thought I was going to die, I swear. He said that he wasn't going to homecoming, but if he was, he would take me. I almost died...again. But that would be a small incident compared tow hat she did yesterday, while wasiting to play the pre-game show.
She asked JH if he would go out with me. Yes, you guessed it, I almost died again. Then, she told me what he had said. He told her that he would like to get to know me first, but then, he would consider asking me out. Thump and I died...almost and yes, yet again.
So, that is my present situation with JH. And tonight, I am going with J to eat and then the dance. And even though JH isn't going to be there, I'll be trying to invision it the whole time.

Comparing Friends

I am only going to abbriviate the name of one friend, "J", and no others. But this is comparing not "band people" to "other people", but "Band people" to "Band people".
Not all band people are the same. If you think so, you are highly mistaken. I have two people I know who are very opposite and I have to act in two different manners around them. . . they are that different.
Let's begin with the friend who I seem to have more in common with and who I can act my normalest (if that's even a word) around. Her name is "J". No, not really, I'm just abbriviating it that. She is the Trombone section leader in marching band. I can be the most like myself around her, because she doesn't care.
The other is my flute section leader. She is the wild type. And when I say wild, I mean wild. I think that I am too goody-two-shoes for her and her friends. Ughhhh, too much sexual humor. they also seem to have the ability to take anything you say and make a sexual joke about it. That's why I find it better to just keep my big mouth shut. She also has a different look at how life should be led and all that jazz, so I'll just smile and nod for now.

I have no little "feel good about yourself" or "I'm warning you" piece of advice to end my blog with, so I'll say good-bye now.

'Night,

The dangers, part.2---The dangers of not listening

Yet again, I am going to use the same guy in this example who was used in "The Dangers of Talking Back" part. This time, the consequences were a little more startling, but, yet again, Q makes perfect sense.
This time, Q was more patient with him, but he still didn't listen. So, Q sent him out. This was last Friday and he wasn't sent out of marching practice, but out of the actual band period 8th period. And today, he wasn't at school.
Now, he probably wasn't here because he was not feeling well, or some other notion like that. But what if he wasn't there because he didn't want to go to band? When I told my mom, she thought that maybe he had dropped band. But he's in weight-training the same period that I have Dance, and he wasn't there. So, he didn't drop band, but who knows. If he is there tomorrow, I will know that it probably wasn't anything serious.

So, listen. you may get away with it the first few times, but you never know when the snake of consequences will strike.

Homecoming dates

Well, my homecoming dance is a week from tomorrow. And there are two guys who I wanted to go with. Problem is that I asked one, and he already had one and the other one I asked if he was going to the dance, and he said he didn't know. Now, what do I do? I am planning to go by myself, or with friends, but it would really be nice to go to the dance with, you know, someone.
But who would ask me? I am the new kid. The only people who know how inncoent and how wild I can get are the marching band members. And which one of those would ask me? No of them...that's who. Well, I'll just buy my ticket on Monday and pray to God that someone will ask me. But all those thoughts will be in vain. Because who, who would ask me to homecoming????

I'll update you as soon as possible. Oh, and sorry for not writing in so long. My life has been so hectic lately.

One time at band camp...

Yes, I am sure that all readers have heard that saying. The quote "This one time at band camp..." has been around since te movie "American Pie: Band Camp" was filmed. And believe me, as a member of the band; symphonic and marching, I have heard that quote wayyy to much.
Now, all of you people who have seen it know what happen in it. Now, I don't know if this is true, but everyone has told me that something really bad happens with the flute player in the movie. Since I haven't seen it, I don't know, but I play the flute and piccolo, so people often make fun of me. At first, I was confused. Now, I shead the comment like water off a ducks back.

However, my point with this blog is that band camp isn't that bad. Although we may have a crazy time and talk about the most wakwarrd things, we still work like heck. We are able to perform our show after just 5 days.

So, despite the movie-spreaded rumors about band camp, it really isn't like that...just to let you know.

Friends. Sweet, loving, sometimes strange, very goofy, yet awesome friends.

Everyone has friends. People that they can rely on, relate with, hang out with, be goofy with, be serious with, and just be yourself around. And, although the first edition of friends won't include my really nice band friends, these friends of mine make the second half on my school day much more enjoyable.
Even though I won't be mentioning names, it is safe to say that they are all in my Aerobics and Dance class, sixth period, after english. Actually, they are in my english and lunch period as well, but we don't get to talk in that class, considering that my Pre-AP english 10 teacher in the reincarnation of the devil. But dance is the best. We get to goof off, talk about awkward things, laugh, and talk to gay guys. Te he. Nicely, of course. And our guy is soo nice.
One is a crazy art student who draws all over her arm in permanent marker and used to go out with the gay guy, that is, until he turned gay.
The next is a dancer. Soo sweet. And smart. She is also in my lunch and we talk in the morning.
The next is the very good friend of the first girl I mentioned. her hair is colored red...and is so cool looking
They are the coolest girls around and they make my school day much more enjoyable.

Thanks you guys,

The pros and cons of marching band

Most of the time, people will day that marching band is either awesome or hot and annoying. Both are true, but there are some good things and bad things about marching band that most people don't think about when they are praising of complaining about marching band.
Let's begin with the cons. My drum-major almost passed out after a marching practice, because it was so hot and she was tired. Also, it can really lower your blood sugar. One of the Mellophone players is diabetic and, at band camp, he couldn't play for almost the whole day, because the exhausten and heat had lowered his blood sugar.
On the other hand, being at games , cheering, dancing, and the high feeling for perrforming can't be compared to anything. The spectators at the football games don't know the thrill of in the marching band until they have been in a marching band .

Everyone should have the marching band experience, though most people never will. So, when you hear the crazy marching band members being hyper before a game, you will know why.

Football games...who are the real cheerleaders?

I woke up this morning and looked in the newpaper. They have a whole section for high school football. And Cave Spring had lost to Lord Botetourt. 12-24. So disappointing. They have won their last two games against Staunton River and Northside. But that got me thinking. If the cheerleaders were at the game yesterday, who are the real motivators?
You know why I am asking this strange question? The band didn't play that game. Q couldn't get transportation, and it was too far away. And, the past two games that the Knights have won, we have been there; cheering, shouting, playing, motivating. I have even said, 'We are more of a cheerleading squad that the cheerleaders are'.
So, does the outcome of the Lord Botetourt game prove that we really do pump up the football team? No one will ever know, but if we win the next few games, Allegeny (homecoming) and William Byrd (away), maybe we will have proof that the marching band should be at every football game

Classical Music. Dead, or not?

I am sitting here in the dining room, listening to Mozart's "Serenade in D Major" and the question just occured to me; it classical music dead, or is it still feebly holding on to life in the day and age of rap and rock.
I think that it still is, though many people beg to differ. But many people who like classicacl music also like other music. Not all, but most. I like rock, jazz, pop, and all the other kinds out there, but sometimes, it is nice to whip out the Mozart and Bach and take a break from all the heavy drums and guitar solos.
Many teenagers think that classical music is boring, but the only reason that they think that is because adults have been telling them that classical music is "serious" or "good" music, and that the should give up the "bad" music, or the music that encourages rough behavior and sets a "bad" example.
But the truth is, rock and rap really isn't bad and classical is "good" as some people claim. Some jazz and rock songs are very good. But the vision people sometimes tend to have is that none of it is good. And classical music is still alive. We just don't know where to look for it. And teenagers have heard many classical songs. Just not on CD's or classical radio stations.

Take a look at the choices in you cell phone for ringtones. If you listen to every one of them, you will find modern versions or techno versions of classical songs that teenagers like or may even have one of those ringtones. And I bet if they found out that it was classical music. I play the piano and have played things for neighbors. They have later said, 'I didn't know that that peice was classical music.' And I have shocked them by telling them that it truely is.

So, technically, classical music isn't dead, it is simpley hiding behind techno recordings and dance versions.

The dangers of talking back

Believe it or not, a lot of us talk back without even knowing it. I know that you have heard that too many times to remember, but it's true. The only time we ever realize that we are talking back is when drastic measures are taken to correct our rudeness and disrespect. A member of our drum line discovered his talking back problem today at practice.
He is in my Symphonic Band also, and he wasn't paying attention. At all. My band director,Q, was getting angry. Really, really angry. He even pulled him aside and let him know that he would have to start listening, watching, and paying attention. The guy seemed to get it. At first.
Then, during marching band practice, he wasn't watching again. Q reminded him to watch the drum majors, they were the source of tempo. But he didn't. And whenever they would cut us off, he wouldn't stop, due to lack of poor listening skills. Then, finally, Q burst.
"Put up your drum. Now" Is what he said.
And the guy went to the band room, and left.

And even though I felt sorry for him, and still do, he got what he deserved. And, the interesting thing is, is that no one in the band, flag corps. or dance team uttered one word after that happened.

Some readers might sympathize with the snare player; some might not. Sure, it was harsh was Q did, but realize something. It did work. And I bet that everyone will be very, very careful from now on about listening to Q and tthe drum majors.
So listen. Please. You never know what might be the consequences to you not listening. They may be harsh. They may be mean. But you won't ever, ever do it again.

Life is short...don't take it for granted

During my 9th grade year, two brothers almost died in a car accident. The older brother was driving himself and brother to school, traveling 70 miles an hour, when their red car was crushed head on by a truck. The details were sketchy then and still are. All the school found out was that the younger brother almost died. He was my age, and in the 9th grade.
Later on that year, another guy, a junior, was in an accident. He was the passenger in a car that hit a tree while going around a blind curve. He almost died.
Life is short; don't waste it doing frivilous things. Things that are useless, or have no meaning. Because you never know when your life might end. You might have lived a full, healthy, prosperous life and die of old age. Or you might be a highschool student, trying to get though school with a halfway decent grade and worrying what you are doing to wear the next day or, if you are a girl, what dress you will wear to homecoming.
Make your life worth it...you never know when it might be taken away from you.

Darn Technology

It is amazing how much people rely on technology these days. For example, all my teachers put their sylibus's ( I know that it is spelled wrong), lesson plans, and homework online. However, today, my battery was low, I think that it still is, and I couldn't access "Blackboard" and my family's computer wasn't loading the site. God, I got really, really angry.
Why do we rely and put all of our assignments on computers, even though we know they aren't all that reliable? Sometimes, it just doesn't make any sense. I mean, they can be handy and all, but sometimes, they can be such a headache.

A Tribute to 9/11

Can you believe that it had been 5 years since the trade centers fell. What were you doing when it happened?
Since I was homeschooled for middle school, I watched the whole event on television, before going on a field trip to a botanical park. I also remember running into my parents room and waking up my Dad, and telling him that they thought a terrorist attack had happened. And I remember him bolting out of bed.
My Spanish I teacher made an interesting comment today. He said that when he was our age, the space shuttle had blown up; the one with the teacher on board. However, he said, there is no special anniversery for that, no broadcasts or special rememberences. The shuttle explosian, he said, was the one thing he would always would be able to say was the event he was alive to see. Then, he said, we would always be able to say that we were 11 years old when 9/11 happened. It was interesting.
Another thing, I feel really stupid. I have found a group of people who I sit with at lunch, but they are all wayyyyy to serious for me. It's like, 'Come on, loosen up just a little bit!' Why the heck do they have to be so freakin' uptight???
Anyway, I have to go now. But do me a favor. One of my good friends is in Iraq, fighting for this country right now. Now, on the anniversery of September, 11, 2001, say a little prayer for him. Please.
And a prayer for all the victims and all the victims family and friends of 9/11

First ever blog

hi all,
this is my first time ever blogging. ever. but i thought that it would be fun. kinda like an online diary. but about myself
i am a sophomore in highschool and the piccolo player in the marching band. flute/picc is my life and i want to do something in music later in my life.
but anyway, i am under a lot of pressure. at least, i feel like i am. i just received a 65% on an english essay on 'Angela's Ashes'. and even though i tried my best, my parents are acting like i meant to do it. sometimes, i understand what my parents are trying to do and show me, but sometimes, i don't.
so now, i am sitting in the livingroom, partially listening to my Dad reading "Great Expectations" to my bro and i, and writing this.
god, i'm glad it's the weekend
